WAUKESHA, WI - One week after the deadly Christmas Parade Tragedy in Waukesha, the community came together to remember those who lost their lives and for those who were injured.
At 4:39 PM on Sunday, members of the Common Counsel and Mayor Shawn Reilly gathered outside the Town Hall/Municipal Courts for a small Ceremony of Remembrance.
The Mayor started with 62 Seconds of Silence to remember those involved in the tragedy.
Common Counsel President Eric Payne stated that he has lived in Waukesha his entire life. He went on to say that “nothing as tragic as this has ever happened.” He said that all the parades he has been in has been joyful, but not this one. He expressed the Common Counsel’s deepest sympathy to all those involved.
Mayor Shawn Reilly then said that Waukesha has endured much suffering, but the community has came together and will continue to come together. The response has shown that the number of those who care greatly outnumber the ones that do not care. He then asked Waukesha and the world to unite by lighting a blue light to show support to the Waukesha Community.
The Town Hall and Municipal Courts then lit up blue.
