WAUKESHA, WI - We are covering breaking news out of Waukesha, Wisconsin where a Red SUV barreled down parade goers. At 4:39 PM on November 21 at Gasper Ave and Main Street a Red SUV drove through barricades headed westbound. It struck nearly 48 people and there are 6 confirmed fatalities at this time.
Mayor Shawn Riley stated that many different people and agencies participated in this mass casualty and that his thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved. He thanks everyone who sprung in to action.
“Waukesha is a community that helps its neighbors,” the Mayor said. He echos that this tragedy will not define the actions of the community.
He stated there would be an Interfaith Community Prayer Vigil at 5 PM on Monday, we will have a full report on that later on.
He understands that there are many people who want to help out during this tough time. He stated that there will be a “United for Waukesha Community Fund” started and more details can be found on their website (https://wccf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create?funit_id=3559). Also on that website will be a way to get support. He asks that you only use 911 for actual emergencies. There will be a Resource Center at Carroll University from 2-6 Tuesday and 9-1 Wednesday. The District Attorney Victim Assistance Fund is also available and more information is on the website
The Mayor ended by saying that “the community will need time to heal,” and asked to respect the privacy of the victims and their families.
